Thanks to a very well done podcast by Free Form Freakout, highlighting the work of the Recital record label, I came across the masterful-beyond-his-years work of Troy Schafer. Centered around string arrangements, his approach to modern classical is well informed by noise/dyi-experimental music while still remaining totally high class. Below is his piece “The Desire Towards Joy - Cycle II” from a new cdr out now on Recital called ‘Evening Song Awaken.’ If you like what you hear, check out more releases on Recital, a label taking a primarily acoustic approach to new sounds in a time when synths are the rage.
