One of the most powerful documentations of the band rRope comes from an instore performance they did at Aaron’s Records in LA. The store asked rRope to “keep things calm” for the sake of the shoppers. Considering the overblown and out-of-control sound rRope was known for, this seems an almost absurd request. The band took it as a challenge though, and ended up with some of the most breathtaking recordings of their songs. Where the songs typically broke into fury, rRope instead would drop things further and further down a rabbit-hole of tension. Typically to only fully unleash for the last few measures. This extended play on tension, working in much the same manner as a film like The Ring, also allows us to enter the structures in their songs with a freedom usually not granted by the aggression. Below are three videos from this performance. Check them out and see why these guys are some of America’s greatest musical geniuses. If the marketing had been right back in the 90s when these guys were around, they could have been America’s My Bloody Valentine. Not for being copycats. Not in the slightest. But for being innovators of the sophisticated sort. If you don’t have it already, be sure to pick up a copy of their remastered, complete discography on Deathbomb Arc. Down to just double digit copies of it left, so don’t hesitate.
