In the early 90s, MTV heavily embraced the band Nirvana, renewing their lease on legitimate coolness for another few years. By the late 90s though, MTV already was showing just how soulless it really was. This was solidified by their refusal to put Aphex Twin’s “Come To Daddy” music video into heavy rotation despite huge demand from their viewers. Then came a decade of absolute meaninglessness for MTV’s place in music culture. A couple years ago, MTV decided to try and get back into the hearts of real music fans, but nothing has really stuck. Their most recent attempt comes today, and definitely strikes for my heart. Unfortunately, in a manner that just leaves me feeling disgusted and vacant.

MTV has produced an “interactive gif music video” for the Death Grips song “I’ve Seen Footage”. What they have not done though is anything true to the spirit of the band. The video is just a bunch of spoiled white kids doing what spoiled white kids do best, be spoiled white kids. It also loads like shit if you don’t have a computer purchases new in the last 365 days. So, if you are a Death Grips fan and want to make sure you see it all, go check out this site here. If you just want to see a good music video for “I’ve Seen Footage”, check out the music video Death Grips made on their own this past April. That one rules. It is below.
