About half a decade ago, one of the first acts on Deathbomb, Books on Tape, announced his retirement. But we all know that in the music world retirement doesn’t mean leaving the game forever. Rather, it is a way for an artist to hit the reset button and reboot. For personal experience I know how important this phoenix move is. Psychologically for the artist, to stir things up again with the fans, and most importantly to escape a lot of the shitty unspoken “rules” that the music machine (bookers, labels, press, agents, managers) starts putting on anyone gaining success. So I think it is time we fully acknowledge that Books on Tape’s phoenix has complete risen from the ashes now. Taking a new form that is entirely by his own rules. He dropped an amazing 12” last year called ‘Retired Numbers’ (which finally is in our webstore btw, and anyone that buys it gets a free copy of the cd we put out by him years ago) and this year has been dropping a bunch of remixes. So here is Books on Tape and in his new 2nd incarnation. 3 recent remixes below, of clipping., Foot Village, and Big Harp (via Impose). Plus, stay tuned to hear his production on the debut True Neutral Crew mixtape dropping in August!
