Spin Magazine has given Brian Chippendale the #34 slot on their top 100 “alternative” drummers. I don’t know, around here at Deathbomb, we really thought he was a solid 33. What the fuck happened :)

To borrow a metaphor that he’s used to describe one of his favorite drummers — the Unsane’s late, great Charlie Ondras — Brian Chippendale is the Energizer Bunny of noise rock, a player who combines relentless intensity with a lovably cartoonish persona. His performances with Lightning Bolt over the past two decades have made him a DIY legend: Along with bassist and fellow Providence art-schooler Brian Gibson (or, more recently, in his solo Black Pus guise), he turns up in your club, loft, gallery, or even kitchen, sets up on the floor, dons his patented lucha libre-gone-anime mask/mic and unleashes the loudest, most frenetic dance music imaginable — equal parts Clyde Stubblefield and Dave Lombardo, but with an element of squirrelly chaos all his own. There’s no more fearsome spaz in the modern-rock underground — just ask high-profile backers Björk and Wayne Coyne.

Julia Holter shares with us the first video from her upcoming album ‘Loud City Song’ (out on Domino in August). While the song writing feels like a natural extension of her previous album, this song “World” signifies one big change. Where once synths covered a lot of ground, now we get an actual orchestra. That’s the dream, right? Well, Holter is living it.

A little over a year ago, Deathbomb Arc did a pop up store at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. In additon to selling music, the pop up store included a haunted maze designed by Albert Reyes. Music for this maze was made by S.R. Cano (music that was also used in our film about Albert Reyes). Now, while this maze/film score has been available online for a while, yet another element of this complex event is finally available too. At the pop-up store, Cano had an exclusive cdr for sale under his pseudonym tik///tik. This two song/34 min release was called “every hex is a heartache”. Now this release is available through the tik///tik bandcamp page. Confused? We understand. So let me summarize:

Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson (both of clipping.) sat down with the Bomarr Blog to discuss their soundtrack for the film ‘Room 237’. The soundtrack is out now digitally via Milan and is coming on vinyl soon via Death Waltz.

Just got back to town from the road portion of the clipping. / Foot Village tour. Thank you to everyone that came out, got loud, and maybe even gave us a place to sleep for 3 minutes. The home show here in LA goes down Mon May 20th with Black Pus. Don’t miss out!

In the meantime, here is a nice multi-angle film of clipping. performing “Loud” up in Vancouver at Zoo Zhop. One of the tightest cities we’ve ever played in. Way to show the states how it’s done, Canada! BTW - Zoo Zhop now carries the latest Foot Village album, plus some titles from the Deathbomb catalog (including some rare cassettes).
